The basics

What Is a Balloon Wall?

Think of it as a backdrop made entirely of balloons, usually somewhere between 6 and 10 feet wide.

An arch frames a space and a garland follows a line, but a balloon wall covers the entire surface. It's built on a freestanding frame or grid, so it stands up by itself in front of any wall and becomes the photo backdrop, the stage background, the wall behind the dessert table or a branded step-and-repeat.

Square foot for square foot, a balloon wall is the most dramatic piece we build. It works for birthdays, weddings, grad parties, gender reveals, holiday parties and company events, and it photographs cleanly because there's no gap for the room behind it to peek through. In an older rented hall with paneling or painted cinder block, that's often the whole point.

Wall styles

Types of Balloon Walls We Build

Five ways to build one, each with its own look and its own price.

Organic balloon walls

An organic wall layers mixed balloon sizes over the entire surface for a soft, cloud-like texture. It's the fullest, most luxurious style and the one most often booked for weddings, quinceañeras, showers and milestone birthdays. It also takes the most balloons, so it sits at the top of our price range.

Grid and link balloon walls

A grid wall, also known as a quick link or link balloon wall, uses linking balloons tied into a net so they line up in tidy rows. The grid lets you lay out a heart, a checkerboard, stripes or a simple shape. It's graphic and clean, which makes it ideal for brand colors and team colors.

Framed balloon walls

A framed wall packs balloons into a rectangular, arched or round frame, and the frame does much of the design work. An arched chiara frame feels elegant, a square one feels modern and a ring feels playful.

Foil and mylar balloon walls

Foil walls are built from mylar balloons, usually hearts, stars or squares in metallic finishes. They catch the light, look sharp on camera and contain no latex, which matters for guests with allergies and for hospitals, clinics and venues that don't allow latex at all.

Floating and lighted balloon walls

A floating wall hangs helium balloons on ribbons in anchored rows, so the surface sways a little as people walk by. It's striking but short-lived, best for one evening. Lighted walls weave LED strings or LED balloons through the surface for night parties and New Year's Eve.

Balloon Wall Sizes and Balloon Counts

Choose the size by the photo you have in mind. An 8×8 ft wall fits six to eight people in one group shot.

Uses

Ways to Use a Balloon Wall

A balloon wall pulls its weight because it handles several jobs at the same time.

Balloon photo wall

The selfie and group-photo spot. Add a custom name in vinyl and guests will line up for their turn.

Dessert and cake table backdrop

A wall behind the cake gives every photo a clean, colorful background, no matter what the room looks like behind it.

Stage and head-table background

For speeches, DJs, award nights, quinceañera court tables and wedding head tables.

Branded step-and-repeat

A grid wall in your brand colors with a logo panel, for launches, galas, conferences and expo booths.

Room divider

Blocks off a kitchen, a bar station or a storage corner so a rented hall looks finished.

Gender reveal moment

A neutral wall with a hidden pop panel, or one that flips to pink or blue on the reveal side.

Occasions

Balloon Walls for Birthdays, Weddings, Graduations and Holidays

These are the events that call for a balloon wall most often.

  • Birthdays: walls for kids' parties and 18th, 21st and 30th birthdays, often with a name or an age set into the design.
  • Quinceañeras and weddings: white, ivory, blush or her chosen colors behind the court table, the sweetheart table or at the reception entrance.
  • Graduations and prom: grid walls in school colors that spell out the class year, plus glam walls for prom photos before the dance.
  • Gender reveals and baby showers: a neutral wall that hides the big reveal, or a soft pastel wall behind the gift table.
  • Fiesta parties: hot pink, turquoise, yellow and orange walls for April get-togethers at home and at the office.
  • Valentine's Day: walls of foil hearts in red, hot pink and rose gold.
  • Christmas and New Year's Eve: red, green and gold walls, and black, gold and silver chrome for the countdown.
  • Company events: walls in brand colors for launches, galas, conferences and ribbon cuttings.

Installation

Installing a Balloon Wall Without Marking Your Walls

The short version: nothing gets attached to your walls.

Every wall we build stands on its own frame with a weighted base. At home, that protects your paint from tape and glue dots. At venues it's usually required anyway, since hotel ballrooms downtown and event halls across the city commonly prohibit tape, nails and adhesives. A freestanding wall can also slide a few feet on the day if the room layout changes at the last minute.

  1. 1

    Measure

We confirm the wall size, the ceiling height, outlets for any lights and the route from the door to the spot.

  2. 2

    Build

Big walls are assembled in panels and joined on-site, then fluffed until the seams vanish.

  3. 3

    Finish

Vinyl, foil accents and lights go on last, and then we check the wall from wherever the photos will be taken.

What is the best way to display balloons on the wall? On a frame standing in front of the wall rather than stuck to it. If you do hang balloons directly, use removable hooks and fishing line instead of tape, and test any adhesive somewhere hidden first.

Longevity

How Long Do Balloon Walls Last?

Air-filled walls last several days inside. Floating helium walls last a matter of hours.

An air-filled organic or grid wall in an air-conditioned room keeps its shape for several days and often a full week, and foil walls last even longer. Helium floating walls start to droop within hours. For an outdoor wall in a San Antonio summer, keep it in shade and build it the same day, because sun and heat dull and pop latex quickly.

Questions

Balloon Walls in San Antonio: FAQ

What is a balloon wall?

It's a balloon-covered surface on its own stand, typically 6 to 10 feet wide, that serves as a photo backdrop, a stage background or the wall behind the dessert table. Organic, grid, framed and foil versions are all common.

How much does a balloon wall cost?

Our foil walls start at $95 for 8×5 ft, grid walls at $395 and organic walls at $575 for 8×8 ft. Size, style and extras set the final price.

How long do balloon walls last?

Air-filled walls hold up for several days in an air-conditioned room, often a full week, and foil walls go longer still. Helium floating walls fade within a few hours, and so do outdoor walls in a San Antonio summer.

What size balloon wall do I need?

8×8 ft is the most popular and fits a group photo or a cake table. 6×6 ft suits small rooms and couples, while 8×10 ft and custom widths suit stages and head tables.

Will a balloon wall damage my walls?

No. Our walls stand on weighted, freestanding frames in front of yours, so no tape, nails or glue ever touch the paint.

What do you call a wall of linked balloons?

A grid wall or link wall. Linking balloons are tied into a net, which makes rows, patterns, numbers and logos possible.

Can a balloon wall be latex-free?

Yes. Foil (mylar) walls contain no latex, which makes them the right call for guests with latex allergies and for hospitals, clinics and venues that ban latex.

Can a balloon wall include a name or a company logo?

Yes. Names go on in custom vinyl, and logos go on a panel set into the wall or get built into a grid wall in your brand colors.
